| chillyxpress ::: Favorites 2007-06-17 00:05:33 Thanks man. I was holding the pick like 'most people' do. Now I can start getting pinch harmonics ^^. __________________________________________________ | |
| jooniejoone ::: Favorites 2007-09-16 01:42:29 Yeah..."most people" was probably the wrong wording. I should have said "most beginners" or "some people." That wording has bothered me since I uploaded the vid. __________________________________________________ | |
| kittybit83 ::: Favorites 2007-09-26 09:11:35 whats with the post-its everywhere? :P __________________________________________________ | |
| eltiogamboin ::: Favorites 2007-10-17 14:36:51 This is very important specially when I tried to do pinch harmonics or whatever they're called, thats when I realized I was holding the pick wrong. But what happens when I'm playing chords? Should I hold the pick like this anyway? it feels kind of weird. __________________________________________________ | |
| chimneybike ::: Favorites 2007-10-18 02:44:49 I wonder the same thing. I have played for years holding the pick "wrong". Holding the pick the "correct" way is great for picking. However I find it difficult strumming chords without it sounding awful. Particularly on upstrokes. Is this way of holding the pick only useful for picking or should I keep trying? __________________________________________________ | |
| jooniejoone ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 02:10:12 Haha! I'm attempting to learn German, so I put up post-its to label things in German. __________________________________________________ | |
| jooniejoone ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 02:19:14 I don't consider myself a guitar expert; I really just posted this vid for my friend Ron who is learning guitar. But yeah, I hold the pick this way for whatever I'm playing, and I don't have a problem with the tone. It will feel strange at first, especially if you've been holding the pick the other way for a long time. Experiment with this method of holding the pick and figure out what you need to do to produce the best tone. This is my opinion; there may be other schools of thought. __________________________________________________ | |
| jooniejoone ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 02:26:31 Oh! One thing that might help...you'll get a better tone (with chords or picking) if you attack the strings at a slight angle rather than straight across the strings. You'll get a harsher tone (and a less controlable attack) if you run the pick directly across the strings. The most important thing is to experiment with different methods/attacks until you hear something that sounds really sweet. Good luck! :-) __________________________________________________ | |
| radabminj ::: Favorites 2007-11-07 11:46:54 i like the wording "most people" - it made me realise that i wasnt alone in my mistake. and thanks for posting - its really helpful, as are your answers to peoples questions. __________________________________________________ | |
| radabminj ::: Favorites 2007-11-07 20:11:03 ive ben practicing like crazy for months, trying to increase my speed. i've read hundreds of magazine n internet articles.... ... yet all along i was holding the pick in a really inefficient way!! :S i cant believe theres so little information out there on how to hold the pick. "whatever feels comfiest" is what i read time and time again. thanks to people like you for showing this totally fundamental technique. __________________________________________________ | |
