| OhhhThatGuy ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 23:46:38 If you are interested in the contrast between the visions of top military leaders and planners and the reality that soldiers face on the ground, check out Wired magazine's article on technology in Iraq at wiredDOTcom/politics/security/magazine/15-12/ff_futurewar. It's amazing they are doing as well as they are. __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 22:40:41 Yes, that quote was in my mind, of course. Mike Tyson once said essentially the same thing: "everybody has a plan until I hit 'em." Read the Hitman book. Wasn't crazy about it. Way too self-serving for my taste. Not that the insights weren't credible...it was just the tone that bothered me. Thanks! __________________________________________________ | |
| OhhhThatGuy ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 22:35:33 "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy" Helmuth von Moltke the Elder. If you are interested in the mindsets the US military must engage, watch "Confessions of an economic hit man" - user talkingsticktv does a 90 min. interview with John Perkins (he wrote a book by the same name) - long, but very enlightening as to why the US is not popular abroad. __________________________________________________ | |
| bnessel1973 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 21:06:32 I had a feeling. And, thank you - sincerely. __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 18:39:16 Yes...some have, but the core remains unchanged. As for military, their amazing leadership and organizational development skills has been at the core of my admiration. I chuckle when I think about asking 100 people who know me well to agree/dis with that description: "traditionalist." My guess: 90+ say, "um...no." Thanks! __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 18:35:46 A parade of well-wishers is great! Thanks for joining in. __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 18:34:32 A what? Stay tuned...developments just might be forthcoming! Thanks. __________________________________________________ | |
| bnessel1973 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:51:11 I wonder, if YouTube had a, oh I don't know, "Community Council", if this line of thinking wouldn't be a great way to operate. Hmmmm? __________________________________________________ | |
| ghostwise ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:27:40 With nothing particularly insightful to say, I thought I'd join in on the parade of well wishers. Good luck with the project! (and thanks for the video) __________________________________________________ | |
| xleax ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:23:55 yeah. I assumed that other views/opinions changed as well but I may be wrong. __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:13:06 An "assessed hunch that you hope will come true"; I like that. I'm not sure that's what the investors want to hear, but it's damned closer to reality than those hockey stick shaped growth curves they usually see. Thanks. __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:11:45 Flexibility: key to survival in the modern world! Thanks. __________________________________________________ | |
| tlg847 ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:11:11 Vis a vis...? Military? __________________________________________________ | |
| xleax ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:08:50 secular-progressive turned traditionalist? __________________________________________________ | |
| RadicalComedy ::: Favorites 2008-01-18 17:02:10 Very true! I did a business plan once to get investors and it was pain staking. One of the hardest endeavors ever. Looking at the market, looking at projections is basically an assessed hunch that you hope will come true. The military needs to be a master of so many areas including culture and history. I feel our leader made is gravest mistakes circling around a lacking in these areas. ~Raven __________________________________________________ | |
