Description: In this video, I show an example of a "typical" quad-line stunt kite like I might design, and show the basic moves that it would make in the sky. Then, I ask how you would make it into a musical kite. I offer some advice, based on experience, but at this point I am looking for any ideas on how to make it truly musical. Notice in the video that I am not looking for a traditional-style hummer... I am looking for something that would have a variable pitch. ---- Video by Roger Maddy |

Since fipples are directional, you could arrange them so that only one or two sounded in each direction. And here's the clincher, for the best possible melodies/chords, use a minor pentatonic (such as: acdeg). This way, all the pitches will be concordant. The minor pent is a haunting sound that would be really appropriate for graceful flying. __________________________________________________ | |
| TKCoutside ::: Favorites 2007-10-21 09:13:33 Cool idea.. I do dual line stuff but like what you are trying to do with a quad. You need to hook up with John Berresi and or Sky Sail kites on this project. If you go to my website, there is a link for Sky Sail kites, John Rollins. He makes some incredible stuff. All kinds of kites from single line to quad... Thanks for posting this. __________________________________________________ | |
| robmdq ::: Favorites 2007-09-24 18:43:11 Based in the diferent speed that every different tip of the quad kite can move you may put some whistles (somehow like the panflutes) attached to them, that way while you move one tip fast its whistle will sound and the others will remain quiet, move full forward and 2 whistles will sound, add more whistles, maybe tuned in an harmonic scale, and you will get chords. Just my two cents. __________________________________________________ | |
| robmdq ::: Favorites 2007-09-24 18:40:45 you can check sites like the kiteplanbase or kitebuilder (in the forums) and get lots of information to help you build your own stunt kite. Hope this will help :-) __________________________________________________ | |
| moberfield ::: Favorites 2007-07-07 20:56:51 Harmonica or some types of accordion reeds play different pitches depending on the air direction. You may be able to position them for each of the kite's directions. They should be light enough. __________________________________________________ | |

| tonycarl60 ::: Favorites 2007-03-18 03:07:53 Drinking straws must be the corregated type. Chinese pigeon whistles and kite whistles are another source. __________________________________________________ | |
| tonycarl60 ::: Favorites 2007-03-17 04:25:51 Plastic flex straws in path of airflow. The faster you go, the higher the pitch (harmonics). Cutting shorter has no effect on pitch. __________________________________________________ | |
| stryker48 ::: Favorites 2007-02-18 09:04:36 Ho abou attaching some kind of cheap plastic lightweight dollar store wistle? That should work well. :-) __________________________________________________ | |
| twentyfourFPS ::: Favorites 2007-02-09 02:28:44 Sounds like a project. Kites are unpredictable. Does the weather control you or do you control the kite? Here is a music maker. Is this you?: watch?v=FdPYU5FZBS4 __________________________________________________ | |
