Yes. It works best on metals, and when done properly, it can do very well on plastics as well.

Acetone will melt your miniatures fairly quickly, but non-acetone won't harm your metals, and it's safe on plastics for short periods.

Sometimes, if the paint is too thick, it obscures detail. That's why I like to unpaint it first. But certainly painting over it would be more convenient. It just depends on the level of detail you have. You can alleviate that problem by being more careful about the thickness of your paint the first time.

I have a question, wouldn't it be easier just to paint over the original coating? I've painted about 40 miniatures and every time I repaint thats what I do.

i tried using non acetone nail polish remover once, and i used a nail cleaner, after a coulpe minutes of soaking, and i didnt work, so i soaked them for about a month ( i forgot) and they melted =P definitely not a good idea in my part

u have to leave it sit over night then scrub off the paint with a tooth brush or something but it works pritty good.
